Eurochocolate 2026: where to stay near Perugia

What can you see at Eurochocolate 2026?

“Fate Dolci” is an invitation to experience chocolate hands-on: not just tasting it, but making it and sharing it. These are the formats the organisers have announced for 2026:

  • Chocolate Show — the big open-air chocolate market, with the new Eurochocolate Free From area: sugar-free, lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan products.
  • Eurochocolate World — the area for bean-to-bar and tree-to-bar makers, with brands from more than 20 cocoa-growing countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia.
  • Spazio Fate Dolci — in Piazza Matteotti, with the edition's themed products and cocoa-based desserts.
  • ChocoLab — daily tastings and talks at the LAB – Luisa Annibale Base, in Via Angusta.
  • Show cooking — live demonstrations by a master pastry chef.
  • Fate Lab — a hands-on workshop for children and families at the former Borsa Merci in Via Mazzini.
  • Street shows — Choco Buskers, Chocoparade and Chocolieri around the old town.
  • Guest Region — Calabria is the first region featured in the new “Regione Ospite” project.

The programme may change during the festival: for individual events, workshop times and last-minute news, the official Eurochocolate page is the reference.

What is the Città del Cioccolato and when did it open?

The Città del Cioccolato (“Chocolate City”) is an experiential museum devoted to cocoa and chocolate: more than 2,800 m² inside Perugia's former covered market, the Mercato Coperto, built between 1931 and 1932. It was inaugurated on 30 October 2025 and opened to visitors on 1 November 2025.

According to its official website it is open every day from 10:00 to 19:00, with paid admission. For Eurochocolate 2026 the organisers announce discounts on museum tickets for anyone buying at the Chocolate Show: current prices and conditions are on cittadelcioccolato.it.

Why is Perugia Italy's chocolate city?

It all started with Perugina, founded in Perugia in 1907. In 1922 Luisa Spagnoli created a chocolate with chopped hazelnuts that, because its shape resembled the knuckles of a fist, was called “Cazzotto” (“punch”): it was Giovanni Buitoni who renamed it Bacio (“kiss”). The idea of wrapping every Bacio in a love note came from Federico Seneca, Perugina's art director.

During the festival the ChocoLab sessions take place in the historic premises in Via Angusta, used by Luisa and Annibale Spagnoli in Perugina's early years.

There is a link with Assisi too: among the new products announced for 2026 is the CioccolaTau bar, dedicated to the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis and made with Tonda Francescana hazelnuts grown in Umbria.

How do you get to Eurochocolate from Agriturismo La Mora?

By car, Agriturismo La Mora is 21.0 km from Perugia's historic centre: about 23 minutes according to Google Maps, traffic permitting. During the festival it's best to leave the car in one of the car parks recommended by the organisers, linked to the centre by the Minimetrò, escalators or lifts:

  • Free Porta Nova car park (Piazzale Umbria Jazz), then the Minimetrò to Pincetto station in the centre. For drivers, the organisers point to the Perugia – Madonna Alta exit, then the signs for the stadium and the Minimetrò.
  • Paid, attended car parks: Mercato Coperto (with lift), Piazzale Europa, Piazza Partigiani and Pellini (with escalators).

By train, Perugia station in Piazza Vittorio Veneto is about 3 km from the centre, connected by the Minimetrò and city buses. Check Trenitalia for train times and tickets.

Where to stay for Eurochocolate 2026?

Perugia is in high demand during the festival. Agriturismo La Mora, at Via Fonte Citerna 7 in Assisi, has five independent apartments, each with a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and air conditioning, plus free parking on site: head into Perugia in the morning and come back to the countryside in the evening, away from the crowds.

From the same base, the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi is 7.5 km away, about 18 minutes by car: a Eurochocolate weekend pairs easily with a day in Assisi. Gemelli and Sagittario, with a private fenced garden, also welcome guests travelling with pets.

If you're travelling with children, perhaps fresh from the Fate Lab, there's a playground with a slide and a small roundabout in the garden.
