Since 2008, Bosco di San Francesco has been entrusted to the FAI (Italian National Trust), which maintains it and organises guided visits along the trail. The path ideally connects two symbolic Franciscan sites — Assisi above, Santa Maria degli Angeli below — crossing a landscape that has stayed agricultural: olive groves still cultivated, terracing, and the Tescio stream running alongside much of the walk.
What you'll see along the way
Besides the olive groves, the trail includes a permanent art installation — a large circle of olive trees visible even from above — designed as a place to pause and reflect, along with panoramic points looking onto the walls of Assisi, which dominate the valley from both sides of the wood.
