'Pet friendly' is a label that says very little: between an agriturismo that accepts animals and one where your dog is truly happy, there are a few questions worth asking before you book. Here is the list we would use ourselves, one question at a time, with the answers from Agriturismo La Mora, in the countryside of Assisi.

Which accommodation accepts pets?
'Pets allowed' does not always apply to the whole property: animals are often accepted only in some rooms or apartments, and finding out after booking means changing plans at the last minute. Ask before choosing your dates, and say how many animals are coming with you.
At La Mora there are two pet-friendly apartments, Gemelli and Sagittario. Gemelli sleeps up to 4 people, Sagittario up to 6: both are independent, with a kitchen and private bathroom, and both are on the ground floor, so you step out into the garden without any stairs.
What is the outdoor space like?
For a dog, the outdoors makes all the difference: a lawn for the early-morning walk, a shady corner in the hottest hours, the chance to lie next to you while you read or eat outside. Ask whether the outdoor space is private or shared with other guests, and what it is like: every garden is different, and if your dog tends to wander off it is better to know before you leave.
Gemelli and Sagittario each have their own private garden; Sagittario's also has a gazebo. All around is the Assisi countryside, with the agriturismo's lawn, playground and pool.

How much does it cost to bring your dog?
Pet supplements vary a lot from one place to another: some charge per night, some per stay, some add other items. Ask for the total amount for your stay: it is the only way to compare prices that are genuinely comparable.
At La Mora the supplement is €25 per stay, not per night: whether you come for a weekend or a whole week, the amount stays the same.
Stay 6.8 km from Piazza del Comune
About 14 minutes by car (Google Maps). Countryside all around, the centre of Assisi a few minutes away.
Are there limits on size or type?
Some places only accept small dogs, others exclude certain animals. It is best to clear this up straight away by describing yours: size, type, habits, and whether it is used to sleeping somewhere new.
La Mora's enquiry form has a 'Travelling with pets' option, where you state your animal's size and type; mention it when you book, too. If in doubt, message Paolo on WhatsApp before confirming.
What rules apply on the property?
Every agriturismo has its own rules for animals in shared areas: leads, places they cannot go, times of day to respect. Ask about them beforehand, especially if your dog is not used to being near other people or animals, and ask whether any areas are off-limits to animals, such as the pool.
At La Mora, pets must be kept on a lead in the shared areas of the property: it is the rule that lets everyone, guests with or without a dog, children included, enjoy the countryside in peace.
Where can you walk nearby?
A pet-friendly agriturismo is also worth the walks around it. La Mora is in the countryside of Assisi: the historic centre is 6.8 km away, about 14 minutes by car, and the Eremo delle Carceri, where the trails of Monte Subasio begin, 12.2 km. In our guides you will find how to visit Assisi with your dog and a day out nearby, with the rules of each place.
What to pack
- your pet's health documents; if you are coming from abroad, check the rules for entering Italy with an animal in advance;
- the lead, and a muzzle to carry where one is required;
- bowls, the usual food and its blanket or bed: somewhere new, a familiar smell helps;
- bags to pick up after your dog, on walks and in the garden;
- a towel for its paws after countryside walks;
- your vet's number and a recent photo of your dog, always on your phone.
