Why is Rasiglia called the little Venice of Umbria?

Because of the water running through it. The village, writes the Municipality of Foligno, keeps the features of a medieval borgo, gathered in an amphitheatre shape, and is famous above all for its springs. The main one, Capovena, rises in the upper part of the village, at the foot of the palace the Trinci family occupied when they ruled the Foligno area: it flows down between the houses in rivulets and little waterfalls that collect in a large basin, the “Peschiera”, and then pour into the river Menotre. The other springs are Alzabove and Venarella.

What is there to see in Rasiglia?

Rasiglia is best discovered on foot, following the water through lanes and over little bridges. For centuries life here has been shaped by water, which powered weaving, wool working and dyeing: a tradition the municipality dates back to the 1200s.

  • the Capovena spring, in the upper part of the village;
  • the Peschiera, the large basin where the streams meet before the Menotre;
  • the water mills and the textile archaeological-industrial park;
  • the lanes and little bridges along the watercourses.

According to the municipality, the textile archaeological-industrial park is a rare example of the preservation of every element needed for textile production, from shearing to the finished product: it tells the story of the move from hand looms to hydraulic ones, replaced in the early 20th century by the mechanical Jacquard loom.
