Saturday: Perugia, the Minimetrò and chocolate
Perugia is 21.0 km from La Mora, about 23 minutes by car. To get up towards the centre without effort there is the Minimetrò, the line that runs from Pian di Massiano station to the Pincetto terminal, below the historic centre: it runs on average every 2.5 minutes, a single ride costs €1.50 and children up to age 6 travel free. It operates Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 21:05, on Saturdays from 7:00 to 1:05 (until 26 December 2026) and on Sundays from 9:00 to 20:45.
150 metres from the Minimetrò exit is the Città del Cioccolato, in the former covered market on Piazza Matteotti, open every day from 10:00 to 19:00. Tickets cost €14 on weekdays and €16 on public holidays, the reduced ticket for ages 7 to 17 €8 and €10; with the family rate adults pay €12 and €15 and children up to age 6 go in free. For the youngest, aged 3 to 8, there are the 20-minute ChocoLab and ColoraLab workshops at €6 each: the museum warns that the programme may change.
Sunday: the Marmore Falls
The Marmore Falls, near Terni, are 77.3 km from La Mora, just over an hour by car: a 165-metre drop in three leaps, created by the Romans. With children, the park recommends trails 2 and 3, towards the Belvedere inferiore, though they are not suitable for pushchairs; in slippery spots children should be held by the hand.
A full ticket costs €12 from age 10, the reduced ticket €10 for ages 5 to 9; admission is free up to age 4. Families with two parents and at least three children under 18 pay €6 for each child, a rate that cannot be bought online. In November and December 2026 the water is released only on Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays, in two one-hour slots around midday and in the early afternoon: check the official calendar before you go.

Stay 21.0 km from Perugia
About 23 minutes by car (Google Maps). Perugia by day, the quiet of the Assisi countryside in the evening.
Alternatively: Lake Trasimeno
If you prefer the calm water of the lake, the Oasi naturalistica La Valle nature reserve, at San Savino di Magione, is open from 1 October to 31 May: Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:00, Saturday and Sunday also from 15:00 to 18:00, closed on Mondays. Tickets cost €4 and include binocular hire; under-6s go in free.
On the west shore, at Castiglione del Lago (64.3 km from La Mora, about 50 minutes), according to its operator the Rocca del Leone is open every day from November to March from 10:00 to 17:00, with last entry 45 minutes before closing. From 5 December 2026 to 6 January 2027 the Christmas tree lights up on the lake, free for children up to 12: we cover it in a dedicated guide.

From March to November: the Città della Domenica
In spring and autumn there is also the Città della Domenica, Perugia's amusement park: in the 2026 season it was open from 22 March to 8 November, and it stays closed from December to mid-March. On public holidays admission costs €24.50 (€18 reduced for ages 3 to 10), on weekdays €16.50 (€13.50); under-3s go in free. The 2027 dates should be checked on the official calendar.
Your base: an apartment in the countryside
With children it helps to come back to the same place every evening. At La Mora the apartments are independent with a kitchen, the playground is always open under adult supervision, and there are reductions for children under 11. From the Assisi countryside, Perugia is 21.0 km away, Castiglione del Lago 64.3 km and the Marmore Falls 77.3 km.
